Conscious sedation with profound amnesia. This is used for more lengthy procedures where deeper levels of sedation are needed.
General Anesthesia:
This is administered in an ambulatory surgery center by a board certified anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist. The patient is completely unconscious and unaware of their surroundings. This is commonly used for children, patients with physical or mental limitations, or patients undergoing surgery in areas that are difficult to access--such as the palate or the tongue.
